But, in order not to be unfounded, I must disclaim, in order to avoid disagreement with some of the statements of such an expert on this region as F.A. Shcherbina. The last one, the “Land Community of the Kubanek Kazakovs,” says that “with a population of 1,074,400 per person in the Kuban region, there are 12.8 souls per square verst, or 624.5 per square mile, or, finally, 8 dessiatines per capita. Well, “for a long time exclude the thought of resettlement.” In order to reach, for example, the density of the population of the Moscow province, the number of inhabitants of the region must quadruple, and in order to be equal in this regard to Belmey, the most densely populated state in Europe, it must increase 15 times, i.e., equal to at least 17 million. shower. "Such a ratio of quantities to the area of land turns out to be favorable because the region is distinguished by its special diversity and richness of nature. Here a person does not need to be exclusively a farmer and herder in order to move economic life forward and have sufficient material resources. In addition to the soil, the contents of water and land are at his disposal here - fish, salt, oil, coal, and, perhaps, even metals."... "The Dalfe Kuban region, in any case, belongs to those few regions of Roses that nature has generously bestowed with its gifts and to which a person only has to put his hands on it to receive gifts in abundance."
Yes, it was clever to put your hands to it! Easy to say! But let's look at the beginning of the quote.
First of all, I remind the reader that in my report on the Kuban region, I speak exclusively only about Chernomort in the meaning of this word, and not about the entire Kuban region, which includes the words I quote from F.A. Shcherbina. The difference between us is big, because those the former Kuban region consists of the former Black Sea region, Old Linsh, New Lin and Zavubanya. It is a pity that the article “Land Community” does not provide data on the population density of each part of the Kuban region. Then, perhaps, we would see that the population of the former Black Sea region is much richer than “5 deeds per capita.” Frankly speaking, it is now incomparably denser in the entire Kuban region, if we take into account that there are very significant parts of the land here that will never be suitable for settlement. I will point out only two such areas: the first is the high mountain region of the Trans-Kuban region and the second is the floodplains of the Azov and Black Seas. Further, if in relation to the entire Kuban region it can be said that “nature generously endowed it with its gifts,” then, I hope, the author of these words himself does not attribute them to Black Sea in particular. In recent times, apart from fertile (for now) soil, fisheries and salt along the shores of the Sea of Azov, there is nothing. No, coal and “maybe even metals” have not been found here yet, and they are unlikely to ever be found. Without taking into account salt, the extraction of which is very insignificant, it turns out that only fisheries and soil remain for the use of the Black Sea region. But regarding the former, F.A. Shcherbina himself says the following: “the same culture, without sparing feathered and four-legged animals, the barbarians dealt with the inhabitants of the waters.” Further, it is very picturesquely depicted that not so long ago the rivers and tributaries of the Azov Sea abounded: sturgeon, stellate sturgeon, blue meadow, karsh, sula (pike perch), ram (roach), chabak (lesh), shamaya, rybets and herring literally overflowed all these waters, not excluding the Kuban... The seines thrown into the estuary and the sea were pulled out along for several days in a row, and still, neither the people, nor even the oxen and horses, which were harnessed next to the waderers, were strong enough to cope with the catch, which is why they cut holes in the nets with throwers, releasing the “extra” fish. And now the fishing industry is counting the fish according to the Ialians, and the one who catches a hundred or a thousand rams a thousand times already boasts of an extraordinary catch. There are no Pisces, the old man seems like a fairy tale.
Consequently, paraphrasing the above words, we have to say that the inhabitants of the Black Sea region remain exclusively in charge of agriculture, to which a person must “skillfully apply his hands in order to have access to
static material media.” These are the undeniable conclusions we have come to!
When you think about the events that you witnessed, when you consider everything that you know about the countries, you will involuntarily come to very sad results. In fact, this is what the essence of the history of the former Black Sea boiled down to.
