The overall performance of traffic on these roads is completely dependent on the time of year and weather conditions. Movement of convoys in bad weather is hardly possible, or in any case it is difficult to count on its correctness.

The enemy will not encounter any natural obstacles that could stop the movement. |

Strategically important points are: Volochisk, Proskurov, Zhmerynka, Mogilev.

The significance of Volochisk and Proskurov is discussed above (see pages 17 and 18). /Zhmerinka is an important railway. a node not only of the region in question, but of the entire Southwestern Front; Moshlev - (see above p. 8) crossing of the Dn$str, trading point, station for quartering troops, beginning of navigation on the river. DnЪstru.

Of the other points that may be important during the offensive in this direction, the following are: Gusyatin - the final point of the Austrian railways from Chortkov and Trembovlya; Satanov and Tarnoruda are crossings and junctions of the Naptikh and Austrian dirt roads; artillery positions are located at these points *). Yafmolintsy, Bar, N. Ushitsa, Elpinuiikovo, Sharlorod are the junctions of the best dirt roads.

The success of the enemy’s offensive in this direction will depend on: 1) mastering the above-mentioned main

aa special points and 2) to ensure their movement from the Starokonstantinov-Kazatyn front.

In the strips from the state border to the Proskurov-Zinkovtsy front, our initial efforts will naturally be aimed at ascertaining the forces and directing the enemy’s movements, for this we can take positions directly along the river. Zbrucha: near Volochisk °); In order to take control of these positions, the enemy will be forced to deploy his forces and discover them.

Having cleared these advanced positions, our troops can retreat to Proskurov and Zinkovtsy, and in order to delay the enemy and give us time to concentrate, we can sequentially occupy the following positions:

On the dead end to Proskurov: three versts east of Volochiska metro station 3), near Zavalka *). near Krivochintsy—Kurniki—Sarnovo 5), near the village of Rypna °); near the village of Solomno °), near the village of Machulintsy °), near the village of Vysvarovki °), between the l. Verkhovtsy and Skotinyany °), near the village. Borshchevki ‘), near the village. Rakovtsi °); near metro station Felyshtin').

On the way to metro station Zinkovtsy: to the Kutkovtsy-Dymkovtsy front °).

All these positions are of greater importance than those of irrelevance.

Having reached Proskurov, we can deploy our forces to a position near this city (see above, p. 21), and a side detachment can take a position near Cape Zinkovtsy').

If we have to clear the city of Proskurov, then our main forces can retreat either to the north-east with a threat to the enemy’s flank and rear, preventing him from moving to 7/Amerink, or along the unnecessary border.

horns to ZhmerinkB; in the latter case, we can detain the enemy in position: on the front Dapystin - Svinoe g), near Slob. If the enemy, who was operating directly against Proskurov, decided to send part of his forces from the Satanov-Gusyatin front against Mogilev-Podolsky, then for the defense of this direction positions could be occupied either on the front Verkhovny-Skotinyany °), or Kutkovtsy-Lymkovtsy °), (depending on the direction of the enemy’s movement). - This direction crosses a number of beams and shallows rivers that flow through steep banks and are convenient for defense, which is why even a relatively small force here can seriously delay the enemy’s offensive; how the most significant positives can be pointed out in s. Mukarov Polevoy") and near the village of Yanovka").

3) The operational direction is from the Tarnopol-Brody front to the Berdichev-Nitomir front and further to the Neva (5th pre-Yuzhnao rally).

The Austrians, concentrating on the Tarnopol-Broly front and securing themselves from Dubno and Proskurov, can advance to Eev in the shortest direction, passing through the Zaslav-Starokonstantinov and /Kitomir-Berdichev fronts.
