Having cleared the Voytovetsky position, you can retreat to either Proskurov or Starokonstantinov.

In the first case, all the way to Proskurov we will not have a single suitable position, as a result of which a retreat immediately after the battle for about 40 miles will be extremely difficult for us; in the second case (to Starokonstantinov), our troops can take another position near Mykolaiv. This second direction of our retreat also has the advantage that the enemy, pursuing us, will be forced to make an inconvenient crossing across the river. South Booth, and then, drawn into the gap between the river. South By Bug and Chance, DalBe will head either to Proskurov or to Starokonstantinov and thereby expose his flank to one of our groups.

There are two doors located near Mykolaiv: one to the north of the city to the village of Chernelevka, the other to the south 00 of the village of Brodoke?). The flanks of these positions are secured by the river. r. Yu. Bug, Buzhok and Sluch. Mfetnost on position crossed; The centers are weak, which is why these positions cannot be considered suitable for a stubborn defensive battle and, under favorable conditions, they can only influence the temporary suspension of our retreat with the goal of forcing the enemy to take the direction we desire.

From the Mykolaiv metro station the paths diverge to Proskurov and Starokonstantinov, so here the further direction of the enemy’s attack must be finally clarified.

In the event that the enemy did not follow our forces retreating to Nikolaev, then this would indicate his decision to launch an offensive towards Proskurov from the south. In this case, our forces at Nikolaev can operate in Yelang, hiding behind the river. South Bug.

The success of the enemy's operations against the city of Proskurov and the city of Starokonstantinov affects the entire long-range military field in this region.

As long as these points are in our hands, the enemy will not have the opportunity either to continue his offensive, or to interrupt communications between the troops operating in the Northern and Southern regions, or to threaten the flank and rear of the troops operating in the Northern region.

With the retreat of our forces from the city of Proskurov. the enemy takes control of the railway. ringworm

The loss of Starokonstantinov is even more important for us, because it costs Proskurov a loss and cuts off communication with Russia.

For defense, the following positions are available:

Proskurovskaya G) to the Zarudye-Ivankovny-Oleshin-Sharovochka front to the river. Wolf of the East L. Rososha. ObstrBl in all areas is very limited; there are many dead spaces in front of the front, allowing for a hidden approach. The enemy side has the advantage of long-range fire. R. Yuzh. The Bug splits the position into two parts, making it difficult to support the flanks with a general reserve.

The position's flanks are secured.

Retreating from the position is inconvenient: troops from the left flank will be forced to be drawn into the gorge formed by the river. r. Bug and Wolf *); the troops of the right flank will have to

retreat through extremely rugged terrain and partly without roads, in addition, the river flows in the rear of this area. r. Bug and Buzhok, crossing which under enemy pressure will be difficult.

In general, Proskurov’s position, either as a whole or in parts, cannot be considered appropriate for a thorough, deliberate battle.

If the enemy heads with his main forces to Starokonstantinov, setting up a barrier against Proskurov, then he can be met in position at Starokonstantinov *),

R. It is possible to divide this position into two independent parts: northern and southern. An unnamed stream flows in front of the front from the Verna Pozscha. Its bottom and valley are swampy, but accessible for fishing. There are a lot of dead spaces in front of the front. In some areas the enemy's positions command ours. The southern position commands the area in front, has a good attack on the right flank, but there are no strong points on it, with the exception of a lsa with a settlement on the front flank.

You can depart from the position near Starokonstantinov in two directions: either to the north-east to cover the railway line or towards Berdichev.
