Pink products are made by hand weaving, the products are quite remarkable in their good quality. Of course, the construction of railways to Samara, Syzran and Tsaritsyn is a circumstance that to a certain extent reduces the commercial area of Saratov, but on the other hand we must take into account that Syzran and Samara, by their very position on the Volga, can only to a small extent interfere with the commercial development of Saratov. A much stronger competitor is Tsaritsyn, which intercepts low-wave cargoes from Saratov, such as fish and salt, and, more recently, oil and kerosene. In any case, the main trade items of the Saratov region - grain and livestock products - always remain with him and constitute something that is sufficient for the development of the trading position of the city and the governor. at

The main problem of the day for Saratov is the shallowing of the Volga, which is increasingly receding from the city, leaving between itself and the former shore a space of sandbanks,

which has grown to such an extent that at present Saratov, formerly located on the very bank of the Volga, is now almost two miles away from it. Quite a lot of money was spent, quite a lot of “methods” and projects were invented to eliminate this circumstance, but for now the whim of the mighty river continues to triumph over the inventions of various technicians.

Another issue of the day is the constant talk about the founding of a university in Saratov. Rumors that the Volga capital will finally be adorned with a university have been circulating for a long time, and, to tell the truth, a university in Saratov would be highly appropriate not only in the interests of the city itself, but also in the interests of the entire huge South-Eastern region. There is no doubt that the opening of a university there would have a very beneficial effect on the development of Saratov itself.

The main street in the city is Nfmetskaya, where the main shopping malls are located, and the most prominent square is Sobornaya, surrounded on three sides by a boulevard called Lipki. Among the private buildings that attract attention with their enormity and impressive appearance, we will name the seven-story Reinecke flour mill, located near the so-called triumphal gates, on the banks of the Volga. Right there, near the Reinecke plant, there were several more flour mills. Then we will honor the richly decorated house of Kokuev on Sertlevskaya Street and Borykins Station, built on the banks of the Volga on stilts and serving as one of Saratov’s summer entertainment establishments.

As an outstanding attraction of the city, we point out the Radishchev Museum, built with the funds and care of the city and the professor, Bogolyubov (Radishchev was his home); open the museum on January 29, 1885. The items in the Radishevsky Museum number up to 4000; many of them were donated by the Highest Persons, the Imperial Academy of Arts, the Hermitage, Bogolyubov, K. M. Radishcheva, A. N. Pypin and others. Thus, the museum concentrated a very interesting collection of a wide variety of objects; in it you will see, for example, two beautiful portraits of Turgenev, a mask taken from the face of the late writer, a cloth from his hand, a small chair in which he spent his last days (all this was donated by Madame Vlardo); further you will find a collection of drawings donated by Professor Bogolyubov, including 89 beautifully executed watercolors; Then you will see a plaster mask donated by A. N. Pypin (a native of Saratov), taken from the late Shevchenko and a collection of autographs of various Russian writers, such as: Turgenev, Saltykov, Nekrasov, Kostomarov, Pomyalovsky, Druzhinin, Dahl, Kavelin and others; The museum also contains a portrait of an old man, a reader by Kramskoy, donated by V.L. Naryshkin, a rich belt of Pugachev, which he gave to the son of a priest in the village of Rovnoye, and many other items.

Of the Saratov churches, the following are remarkable: the Kazan Church, founded at the founding of the city itself; a monastery was later established at this church, which was transferred in 1822 to a settlement called Bald Mountain; Trinity Cathedral, formerly wooden and built in stone in 1697

by order of kings Peter and Toanna.

Two newspapers are published in Saratov: “Saratov Dnevnik” and “Listok”. g “i The right bank of the Volga, starting from Saratov down, is very lively, before picturesque view: it is studded with many dalgas, farmsteads, villages; all this is buried in the greenery of the gardens, all this enlivens the méfetnost. Further, 20 versts below Saratov, the shore sharply changes its character: it represents a series of bare cliffs, bearing the general name Stolbichi.
