Ostrany, 8 thousand Cossacks and 4 thousand Tatars marched to Ukraine. Meanwhile, the lords, having gathered up to 50 thousand troops in Cherkasy, did not know what to do. On the one hand, they saw that in the Ukraine, although it was quiet for now, something wrong was being prepared: whole crowds of people would run to Sich, Cossacks and khlops would converge and agree on something; on the other hand, they did not see the enemy and did not even know where to expect him from. Finally, they decided to send 2 small detachments to the steppe for reconnaissance: one, composed of registered Cossacks under the command of Barabash, went on Difprom kayaks, and the other, led by young Potocki, the son of the main Polish military leader, went along the shore. Both detachments were supposed to meet at Kodak. Khmelnitsky, having spoken about this, entered into relations with the registered Cossacks, who, having killed the hated Barabash, went over to his side. Then Khmelnitsky went to the Zheltye Vody river, where the Poles of the young Pototsky stood. The registry changes confused the Poles, and the unexpected presence of the Tatars completely amazed them. However, on the first day the Tatars did not enter the battle; only the Cossacks fought. When it became clear that these people were being fooled for the last time, Khmelniy invited the Poles to give him the guns, with the idea that he would allow them to safely retreat to Ukraine. The Poles agreed and gave up the cannons, but as soon as they moved, the Tatars fell on them, who began to shoot at the POLES FROM their own cannons. The Cossacks ran forward, and the Poles were completely defeated. The seriously wounded Pototsy and the other gentlemen were sent to Chigirin.
Between TBM, old Pototsuy stood in Cherkasy and knew nothing about the fate of his son and his squad. Finally, some nobleman brought them the faithful. news about Zheltoet =
Votic defeat The lords got scared and retreated to Korsun. Khmelnytsyu approached the same place with 15 thousand, and such dust rose along the roads that the Poles thought there were up to a hundred thousand Cossacks and Tatars. Khmelnitsky immediately began the battle and, although he drove the Poles into the trenches, he did not have a decisive victory. At night, Khmelnytsyu sent a Cossack, who was captured and tortured by the Poles. The Cossack testified that there are 50 thousand Tatars, but he doesn’t even know how to count the Cossacks.
The Poles got completely scared and began to retreat, but Khmelnitsky just needed this: near the village of Gorokhovets, which lay on the way of the Poles, he ordered the army to dig a ditch, lower the dam, arrange rubble in the forest and set an ambush. The Poles retreated in order, the Tatars and Cossacks followed them not far away.
When the Polish army approached the LFs, the Cossacks suddenly rushed at them with terrible force; the horses under the guns were killed, and the cavalry was forced to dismount: the master's servants began to run away. Suddenly the Poles came across a ditch, and the carts, pushed from behind, began to fall there one after another; the Tatars standing behind the ditch fired cannons, and the ambush fell on the Poles from the sides. Everything went wrong... It was terrible. Hetmans Pototsy and Kalinovsy were captured and were sent to the khan himself. The rest of the ploughmen also went to the Tatars, and 500 lords were paid off. The Cossacks got a Polish convoy with riches.
As soon as the news of the Zheltovodsk and Korsun victories spread throughout Ukraine, the whole people rose up. Supplies, gunpowder, and bullets were brought to Khmelnitsky from everywhere. The priests excited the people, and they approached Khmelnitsky, increasing his strength every day. Khmelnitsy sent out a universal (letter) throughout the Ukraine, in which he eloquently reminded the people of all the hardships they had endured, of the desecration of the faith of the right-
Ahh glorious and invited those who cherish their native Ukraine to hurry on a good horse with serviceable weapons to the White Church, where his forces were stationed. At the same time, he sent corrals (detachments) throughout Ukraine to destroy everything gentry, Lyash and Jew.
