Below lo s. The shore articulation is high, (15-30 fathoms) open and almost everywhere accessible to all military branches. From the village Artifications lo s. Koikovo the front bank becomes steep, and below Koikovo both banks are high (up to 40 fathoms) and the bank into which the jet hits is steep and steep. The commanded banks often change and belong to either the right or left bank, but for the most part the left bank commands. The width of the valley ranges from 100 steps to 200 steps, sometimes reaching 300 steps.

To the mouth of the river Along the valleys of Trostyanets there is an almost continuous line of ponds, so it is swampy and overgrown with very thick reeds, but there are also narrower areas through which all types of troops can pass.

Below the mouth of the river. The Trostyanets valley is mostly dry, in some places occupied by vegetable gardens, orchards and village buildings.

The width of the river outside the ponds ranges from 2 to 20 steps,

— 110 the depth reaches 1'/arsh.. The current speed is 1'/"—3 feet. per second. Ponds of various sizes. Almost all of them are impassable for fording. The bottom is muddy almost everywhere. The banks of the Russian Federation are low and mostly in the furnace. In the summer the river often dries up completely.

There are 25 permanent crossings to the river. Most are mill dams. Most of the crossings are completely serviceable and allow movement of all types of troops along them.

There are generally few swamps in Raonf.

[fragment illegible in the scan of the first edition]

1) Irdynskoe swamp, which has one thing in common with the river. Irdynovka. The total length of the swamp is about 49 versts. The bottom of the swamp is almost horizontal. To a depth of about 1 fathom the swamp is muddy; The silt is mostly covered with thin vegetation. The silt lies on a layer of torea with a thickness of | arsh. up to 1'/" arsh.. The tore is loose. The crossing through the swamp exists in the foreground of the Dokhnovsky forestry. Crossings open into the form of walking trails. only in summer within the Dokhnovsky and Cherkasy forestry areas. In general, the swamp is impassable for fording.

2) Swamps, occupying a significant part of the surface of the eastern part of the region, from the line with. Adamovka—s. Voytovo up to the state forestry station, as well as into the triangle of the village of Andrusovka-s. Adamovka—l. VBtrovka. In character, the entire left bank of the Tyasmin River, with the exception of only small areas, is suitable for these swampy areas. In addition to this group of swamps, we should also point out swampy meadows - “swamps”, located in places along the right bank of the river. The Dn$pra and its branches, as well as along low m5stas in TsBlom a number of villages near the Dnfpr.

There is a significant difference between the swamps of one and the other group: while the majority of the Dnipropetrovsk swamps are completely passable in the dry season, the swamps of the first group, due to their vastness, depth and marshiness, represent a serious obstacle that strengthens the water defensive line of the river. Tyasmina, because it is often impassable, even in dry times. |

Of the swamps of this group, the swamp, or the vBrn5e group of swamps, located in the above-mentioned triangle formed by the village of Andrusovka, with. Adamovka and s. Voytovo. (Near the city of Chigirin).

They are not called Byut, but we will call them, for short, Ratsev swamps, since they almost all lie in the Ratsev volost and even surround the village of Ratsevo itself. Within the indicated boundaries, the Ratsevsk swamps occupy, in general, a vast area of 300 square meters. verst.

Previously, this area was an almost continuous swamp, only here and there covered with so-called “kutas,” that is, dry areas, mostly with sandy soil. Now the number of these “kuts” has increased significantly, partly due to the natural drying out of the swamps, and partly due to the cultivation of more or less suitable areas for this.
