lying to the north-west of this triangle is the richest in forests. But here, too, there are exceptions: for example, part of the Slavechansky volost is completely deserted. The volosts lying to the east are also richer in forests than the rest of the volosts. -
In general, the closer the centers, rafting routes and highways, and the better the soil, the smaller the amount of horsepower, and vice versa.
Lysa Polfsya are very diverse, both in age and in species and in the soil where they grow. It is predominantly mossy with a predominance of pine on more elevated, sandy areas; oak and hornbeam on clay and loamy soils; birch grows almost everywhere, only the sand is sanded with clay or black-
_ noseme.
Every year there are fewer and fewer forests in Poland, and now there are huge areas that, after clear cutting, have turned into sandy deserts. As a result of cutting down forests, the swamps will be destroyed and the river will become very shallow.
As for the passage of forests, it should be noted that most of the forests have dense undergrowth, which greatly impedes movement along the forest, and only some state forests, which for a long time were considered ship groves and were for a long time under the protection of exceptional laws, retained the character of virgin forests, devoid of undergrowth.
Even the rays of the sun cannot penetrate into such a forest. They are difficult to move due to the abundance of windbreaks and dead wood.
Obpiy review of paths.
In the northern part of the region, there are all three types of communication routes, i.e., ordinary, railway and water; but in view of the fact that the main type of them are dirt roads, which in most cases run through marshy soils, the surface of which is not convenient for movement even in dry season, the area should be classified as an area with poorly developed communication routes. There are only 146.5 versts of highways in the area, i.e., 1 verst of highway per 146.8 sq. verst area of the wound. Dirt roads—11,411 versts, i.e., for every 9.4 square meters. There are 1 verst in the area of the district dirt roads, but, as stated above, these roads are for
— 146 troop movements are not very convenient. As for railway roads, there are few of them in the region, namely: there are 307.6 versts of railway line, i.e., for 146.8 square meters. The area of the district is only 1 verst of the railway line.
The shipping company is certified only according to the river. Pripyat and Dnfpr; in other districts of the district it is either completely absent or extremely limited.
(For details on shipping see Pridnfprovsyu district, Statistical description). As for the importance of the routes for the performance of troops operating in the region, it must be noted that the Sarny-Yuev railway line can serve as a communication line for troops operating in the northern part of the Northern border region.
Of the other routes, the best one is the N.-Volynsk-7 Zhitomir-K1ev highway, in its direction it can play the same role.
The rest of the paths on the VSB are divided into two groups: 1) paths leading through the region from west to east and 2) paths of the region, from north to south.
A detailed description of the routes is given in Appendix P, Routes of the Transnistrian region.
The telegraph rainfall is much less developed compared to the southern part of the region. The total length of the telegraph line is 1144.4 versts, i.e., 1 verst of the telegraph line serves about 23.8 square meters. ver. area of the district.
Ralona soil.
Almost *“/5 of the entire surface of the region has sandy soil with a greater or lesser admixture of humus, only within the triangle, the base of which is on the Brest Highway in Kocherov and Novograd-Volynsk, and the top is somewhat north of Iskorosti, where the terrain is more hilly, there are quite significant areas of loess, loamy and sandy loam soil, and from Slovechno through Ovruch almost to the borders of the Martynovichi volost
