Tsarevich Alexander Archilovich Imeretinsky was the first General-Feltseichmeister.

Although, with the appointment of Tsarevich Imeretinsky as General-Fieldmaster, the Engineering Department could not particularly gain, since he was a specialist in artillery! principles of localism.

In 1700, Tsarevich Imeretinsk, taking part in the wars between the Russians and the Swedes, during the siege of Narva, together with other generals, was taken prisoner and sent to Stockholm, where he died in 1710. After he was captured, Major General Bruce was appointed to correct the position of Feldzeichmeister General 1). To this time, i.e., to 1700, according to many writers, the renaming of the Pushkar order into “Artillery order 2) dates back.”

At that time, all ranks belonging to the Engineering Department were part of the artillery staff, were under the command of the Feldzeichmeister General and depended in everything on the artillery order. The title and duties of the Feldzeichmeister General, in relation to the Engineering Troops, were determined by the military regulations of 1698, among other things, as follows: “This is how it behooves him (i.e., the Feldzeichmeister General) to understand the fortification, before laying siege, it is necessary to roll out through it the convenient establishment and be mortgaged, but someone would question the food. how many guns do you need for an army of 50,000 people, and with that I will again ask whether a siege will be carried out or just to attack the enemy in full force, since it’s not decent and not necessary to take a great shell with you and just carry it in bulk.”

1) After the death of Tsarevich Imereti, General-Major Bruce was confirmed in 1111 in the post of Feldmaster General.

Gr. Yakov Villimovich Bruce belongs to those famous employees of Peter the Great, whose merits and knowledge, rightly, were highly valued by the Great Sovereign. He began his service with the rank of Engineering Officer during the siege of Azov (1695), then took part in the sieges of Narva, Shlisselburg, Nenshchanets and Riga, and contributed to the victories of Kalisz, Lesny and Poltava. Peter | He had complete trust in him and repeatedly told Bruce: “To do everything according to your own discretion” (Historical review. Inzh. Admin., A. Savelyeva, 1879).

2) N. E. Brandenburg, author of “Material for the Historical Artillery Administration in Russia,” claims that the renaming took place later—in the 1st quarter of 1701.

From all of the above about the state of the military administration of the Engineering Department before Peter the Great, we see that during this period in Rus' all the beginnings were laid for the formation of a separate Engineering Corps, all the elements from which a harmonious whole was created were put together; All that was missing was a person with a bright thought and a strong will to bring these elements, rich in inclinations, into the correct framework and revive them with the idea that by that time had animated the entire military structure in Europe.

1700 At the beginning of the eighteenth century, through the works of the Great Transformer Peter 1, Armenia received everything that it lacked for the development of its external and internal life, in the sense of organization, education and administration.

At this time, a new type of weapon, now called the Field Engineering Troops, began.
