up to 15 streams merging together. Pripyat bears its own name only after collapsing with the river. Yatsolda near Pinsk. Up to this point it consists of many tributaries flowing under different names; they connect into lakes Lyubiadz Pinsk. u. From this Lake Pripyat flows again, dividing into several branches, of which the main one is called Parok, and collects its waters in Lake Nabel; ‘in the interval between 03. Lyubiadz and Nabel the Pripyat flows (0205; beyond Lake Nabel it again divides into several branches, of which the main one is called Strumenem, and the other Pripyat and flows until it crushes with Yatsolda, over the course of the 80th century, receiving on this way Veselukha and Pina and connecting through one of branches with the Otyr. After connecting with the Yatsolda, the Pripyat is already known by this name before its confluence with the Dnieper; its flow reaches 740 in. Its bottom is generally silty, and in some places it is rocky; Mozyr's left bank rises significantly; the right bank rises more near the village of Zagoryany Moz.
Of the upper tributaries of the Pripyat, the Pina and Yatsolda are especially important; it starts in Volkovysk. u. Grodno lips not far from the Novy Dvor metro station in vast, forested swamps. The Yatsolda flows in a low-lying swampy valley, passing through the large Sporovskoye Lake. In its further flow, the Pripyat receives several very important tributaries, of which we will point out the right ones: Styr with Stubla, Goryn, Stvia, Plotnitsa and Slavechno; from the left: Bobrikz, Tsna, Lanz, Sluchz, Ptich, etc.16).

11. Communication routes.
Naturally, with such an abundance of waters and their location in the area occupied by the Krivichi and Dregovichi, important waterways passed through in ancient times. Through the lands of the Krivichi, the south was connected with the trading city of Novgorod, and convenient routes to the east, to the lands of foreigners, passed through it.
There were several routes from the lake region to Podvinia. One of them went to me, the city of Polotsy, and Velime Luki, the city of Novgorod 17). The Yemenets path can be defined as follows. From the Dvina he walked along the Oboli River, which connects with Lake Ozerische, from where there is now a small portage to 03. Yemenets; from it to 0z. Nevel, from which r. Yamenka connected with Lovat. In these places it has been preserved that the waters of Lake Nevelskoye once merged with Obol 18). If this is so (which is quite plausible), then there was a direct route to the lake region from the Dvina, without portages. In addition, along this entire route there are signs of ancient settlements, such as mounds, fortifications and fortifications. The burial mounds of Gorodoksky Uyzd, according to the city of Sementovsky, are located along the ancient routes of communication between the city of Nevelya, Vitebek and Dvina - along the current St. Petersburg highway, starting almost from

the city itself and ending with the northern part of the district, and along the course of the Oboli 19). It is remarkable that it is at the lakes Emenets, Nevel, Ozerishcha and others on the same route that we find the largest number of ancient structures. About them, Mr. Sementovsyu in another mZ says: “But the largest number of mounds and, moreover, of enormous size, accumulated in more or less significant groups, is located in the north-eastern corner of the Gorodoksky district, precisely in that part of it that is located above the Lovatya River, between the Surazhsky and Nevelsky districts, on the lands of the state estate of Staek and part of the Gorky Society“ 20). In addition, on this way we find a monastery 2\) near Lake Ozerishcha near the village of Dubinin. At the same lake, on the lands of the Sviridov rural society, there is a wonderful monument with the remains of Ukrainian fillets, a ditch and bridges; People's memory has preserved it as if it were an inaccessible place 22).
Prince Divid Rostislavich with the Novgorodians and Smolnyans "°) went to Polotsk along the Yemenetsky route in 1185.
Another route from Podvinia to the lake region lay at 70 ropeshchv. From the Dvina he walked along the Toropaya river to 03. Toropetskogo; from there a short drag to the river. Serezha, flowing into the Lovalt; Rostislav walked this way in 1168. Mstislavich on a date with his son in Novgorod No. 4).
