As soon as Izyaslav Usifl finished military operations and established himself in Yuev, his death suddenly followed (1154). The old man Vyacheslav, feeling unable to rule the Yevev region, immediately called his nephew from Smolensk, Rostislav Mstislavich. When the last day, having arrived in Kev, he met with his uncle, Vyacheslav told him: “I’m already old and I can’t manage everything; therefore, I give you the same thing as taking your impl; you honor me as your father, just as you honored your brother; but here is my regiment and my squad - manage them.” Rostislav accepted my uncle's conditions. ““) The first act of the new Grand Duke’s power was the surrender of the Turovo-Pinsk region to Svyatoslav Vsevolodich. “°)

Rostislav immediately had to go with the army to Pereyaslavl. During this campaign, the old man Vyacheslav, who remained in Noev, died; In the evening he drank and had fun with his retinue, and once he went to bed, he never got up. When news came to Rostislav about this, the latter left the army and quickly went to Klev to pay his last tribute to the respected old man. He buried him and distributed all his property to the monasteries and the poor. “°)

Vyacheslav Vladimirovich died at a very old age. The year of his birth is unknown; but already in 1096, at the command of his father, he went with an army to help his brother; if he was then about 20 years old, then he died at least 80 years old (1154).

Writers usually portray Vyacheslav as an incompetent, passive prince, yelling at his boyars. However, we cannot completely agree with this. True, Vyacheslav avoids the alarming Pereyaslav prince and goes to his calm Turov; he does not achieve the grand-ducal table, although he had the right to it, as the eldest in the family; He is extremely reluctant to go to war and refuses to claim his rights even when Izyaslav and Yur directly offer him to occupy YuKev. However, these features do not yet indicate the complete inability of Vayacheslav. From his attitude towards Turov we draw a strong connection

affection for this city; It is likely that there were stones or ridges of the secluded location of this city that were the reasons for attracting Vyacheslav there. We have already had the opportunity to point out that at this time he was not the only one distinguished by a special attachment to the countries he ruled: Rostislav of Smolensk, and Yur of Suzdal, and the son of the last day, Andrei, possess the same properties. Vyacheslav, obviously, loved quieter internal activity, rather than military storms; So, having become the Prince of Yokiev, he took up internal affairs, providing military personnel to Izyaslav and Rostislav, and in this field he won the people's love of the Zhevlyans. If Vyacheslav did not achieve the Grand Ducal throne, there were serious reasons for this. He takes on two strong, intelligent and ambitious rivals, Izyaslav and Yuri; if he started a stubborn war, he would have to have a dflo with tfm and others alone or even in a vmfet. His land was comparatively small, its population was never distinguished by its belligerence, and, moreover, it did not see any special benefit in mining for its prince. Turov was not distinguished by his trading activities, and, moreover, his interests were not at all so closely connected with the Dnfprom and @ev that it was important for him to have his own prince; Then, the princes usually conceded Turov to others, often reserving for themselves what Vyacheslav could have done. And so, why would Dregovich shed his blood? Meanwhile, it was difficult, even impossible for the prince, to fight without the support of any strongly interested area; If, in addition, the country, as in this case Turov, is bfdn, then there is no need to hire a rabble squad; and to rely on the squad, or on the random help of this or that city, meant losing half the battle in advance. How could the Turovo-Pinsk volost support its prince in his quest for Vev, when she could not fight off Izyaslav herself, and Vyacheslav more than once asked Yury to quickly come to the rescue. Vyacheslav, of course, understood all this. The character of Vyacheslav Vladimirovich is reflected in all his actions and words. He loved his Turov and tried for its safety; For the sake of this love, he often endured even humiliation. According to the Ukrainian portrait, he was inclined towards love and peace and did not have an angry heart, moreover, he was human
