But even within these narrow limits, our work, it seems, is not completely fragmentary. We end the story of the Krivichs and Dregovichs precisely at the moment when a turning point is noticed in it. The independence of the Smolensk princedom is fully established and it seeks to create a center of itself to the west, similar to the Vladimir principality to the east; the interests of the Principality of Polotsk turn to the west, to the Germans and Lithuanians; The last element, obviously, begins to occupy a prominent place here, enter into closer relations with the Polotsk people, an awakening begins in it, which is noticeable in the last quarter of the 1st century, difficult to detect from the available sources, but the effects of which were clearly felt only by half of the next century. Finally, the Turovo-Pinsk region receives some independence, its own people. princes, “its interests also turn, the lordship” fell - To the left, to the west, to Galich, the center of the earth from ancient Turov passes to Pinsk.

In conclusion, I consider it my personal duty to express gratitude to the professors: Vladimir Bonifatievich Antonovich, Vladimir Stepanovich Ikonnikov and Pyotr Vasilyevich Golubovsky, whose advice and guidance greatly contributed to the successful progress of my work.

The north-western part of Russia, now known as B%loruss, was inhabited in ancient times by three different tribes; Dreyuvich, Radimich and Krivich; Subsequently they branched out to Polotsk and Smolensk. At the beginning of the historical life of the Russian people, these tribes constituted a significant part of the then Rus'. How related they were to each other in ancient times is difficult to determine at the present time; however, looking carefully at the course of their history and paying attention to the fact that later they formed one ethnographic group - the Belarusians, one can assume their close ethnographic kinship already at that distant time when Rus' was being formed. When we look at the historical events of these tribes, we will erase their isolation in the general life of the rest of Rus'; There is obviously some kind of inner life going on, but it is difficult to trace it due to the lack of written data. The Radimichi tribe seemed to be excluded, whose history is almost invisible in our photographic records; they never lived an independent political life, but belonged to the Chernihiv principality. However, the Radimichi did not assimilate with the S%Fverians, despite their long life together; on the contrary, they joined their sfver neighbors VKrivichi and Vmfst with the Dregovichi formed a separate ethnographic group
